At the age of 17, I began to have chest pains that were so sharp I couldn’t breathe. I went to the doctor thinking there was something wrong with me. His answer: you’re just stressed.
I had no idea why I was anxious, and nothing seemed to help. Addictions were my coping mechanisms for anxiety, providing short-term relief despite the long-term consequences.
Eventually those consequences forced me to seek help, and I began my recovery journey. That was eight years ago. Therapy has been life changing for me – I became more calm, happy and connected, and I began to wonder if this was something I could do for others as well. I’m so grateful I chose this path; the journey has been remarkably rewarding.
I volunteered for the last six years as an addictions’ counselor, working primarily with men. This experience led me to launch The Addictive Pod: How to Recover from Addiction. I also worked for two years in the CAMH emergency department, helping to de-escalate situations and respond to crises. I became familiar with borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, suicidal ideation, and other mental health concerns. For the last year I have worked at PsyVitaliti Clinic as a student therapist providing virtual therapy for individuals struggling with anxiety, burnout, depression, and ADHD
